ARTIST STATEMENT

Papel Picado was inspired by a photograph taken by the artist in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Papel Picado translates as cut paper. The paper versions are considered a traditional folk art in Mexico and are commonly used as decorations for festive celebrations. Colorful weatherproof versions are often seen strung between buildings in the streets of Mexican towns.
