ARTIST STATEMENT

I based “Charming Billy’s Irises” on my photo of an iris variety called “Charming Billy” in my garden. I’d planted the iris bulbs two years before, but seeing no sign of them the following year, I was quite surprised when they emerged in all their glory the second year. It seemed natural to create this triptych quilt in memory of my husband Bill, who loved gardening and flowers, and also was incredibly charming.
