ARTIST STATEMENT
There is an element of surprise in botanical printing. The resulting image is a collaboration, partially the artist’s intent but more importantly what the foliage decides to share. An oak leaf may give different results depending on the season. A tree’s leaves can print a different color than its neighbor. The lifespan of an individual blossom may be only a day yet its printed image can endure. The impression made is a gift from nature.
About Kathie Briggs
Kathie finds inspiration for her art in the ever-changing seasons and shifting colors of the woods and fields. The North Carolina landscape with its numerous wildlife and plant varieties supplies endless opportunities for study and interpretation. Kathie “paints” with fabric by combining the visual and tactile texture of cloth. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, art centers and at national and international quilt shows; and has been featured in books and magazines.
